Counseling FAQ's
Starting the counseling process can often be intimidating and scary. At High Mountain Counseling we aim to approach each prospecting client with humility and respect. Hopefully the questions and answers to the right will help some, and if not please do not hesitate to reach out. The first step towards change is often the most difficult and the one you will remember the most.
1
Do you take insurance? Do you offer a sliding scale? What are your fees?
Yes and yes. Not all clinicians are on all insurance panels however. It is important you familiarize yourself with your insurance benefits. Many times copays and deductibles are so high, it is more advantageous for you to pay out of pocket or on a sliding scale, which may be different for each clinician, than to deal with the hassle of using your insurance. Additionally, it is also possible to do reverse billing where you pay out of pocket, and our clinicians give you a breakout of your payment history so you can seek out reimbursement from your insurance.
2
Where are you located?
Our office is located at 3333 S. Wadsworth Blvd - Suite D201 - Lakewood CO 80227. We also provide community based work in certain circumstances.
3
How long is an appointment?
Appointments are typically 1 hour but can vary depending on needs of the client or the type of clinical work being done.
4
Do you have someone who can write prescriptions?
No, we do not have a psychiatrist on staff.
5
What are your hours?
Typical hours are Monday through Friday 8AM to 8PM. Some clinicians work on Saturdays and some hours may vary depending on the type and location of service being provided. For example, intensive homebased services include a 24 hour crisis management program.
6
How do I know if counseling would be helpful?
It is our belief at High Mountain Counseling & Training Institute that counseling at many stages in a person or family’s life is helpful. We work hard to break the cultural stereotype that promotes shame if someone is seeing a therapist. All the clinicians who are part of this group have or are seeing therapists themselves or for their families or children. Seeking out help if you need it is a sign of strength not weakness. The most important component to determine if counseling would be helpful is to make sure it is a good fit between yourself and the therapist you choose; so in that regard potential clients are encouraged to shop around, ask good questions, be an informed consumer.
7
How do I get started?
The easiest way to get the process started is to reach out directly to one of our clinicians. You can find that information Here.
8
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. However, in person therapy is more effective and we encourage clients to pursue this approach first. Telehealth can be done sporadically to maintain the continuity of the clinical process when normal interruptions such as sickness or transportation issues arise.
9
What is your cancellation policy?
Each therapist has their own general cancellation policy. It is important you familiarize yourself with this before you begin treatment.
